The macula

Diseases of the macula can be slowed down or even cured. It is also possible to recover vision previously lost.

Macular puckers and macular holes are caused by changes of the vitreous.

A macular pucker is when a thin membrane develops over the central area of the retina called the macula. When this membrane contracts and then retracts, it causes a progressive distortion of the macula itself, resulting in a worsening of the central vision.

A macular hole opens in the center of the retina: in people over 50 years of age, the incidence is 3 cases out of 1000 people, is more prevalent in females and usually involves only one eye

A need, a desire, a wish…

As time passes, we feel wiser, safer, more complete. We feel mentally ready for new challenges and we physically desire to perform more in regards to work, sport, and personal and family affairs. One of the senses that drives us towards new goals is our vision. But as we age, our vision changes. But remember that a visit performed at the right time (perhaps now?) to identify and treat your vision problems can give you back the confidence and pleasure to do the things you like to do. Call us, we think of it in the exact same way

Technology and Solutions

Early diagnosis, with sophisticated technologies like OCT, which we routinely perform. Careful surgical evaluation, for the correct choice of the most suitable pharmaceutical therapy. Timeliness in the execution of surgical intervention when necessary. All this is CARONES Vision. And all this is for you, for your life and for your eyesight

Vitreoretinal Surgery

Macular surgery, to address the pucker and the macular hole, foresees the removal of the vitreous membrane that leads to these conditions. The intervention is carried out in a sterile environment with local anesthetic and takes about 20-30 minutes. While there may be slight discomfort, the intervention is not painful. After removal of the membrane, a laser treatment may be required to reinforce the retina. Complete visual recovery can take time, but there is no need for a hospital stay

How much does it cost?

The cost of surgery to correct a pucker or a macular hole may vary, but it is comparable to buying new kitchen appliances. It’s a small investment, but your eyesight is worth it

Intravitreal Injections

For senile macular degeneration, special drugs called anti-VEGF are administered through intravitreal injections. There are several different anti-VEGF drugs, and each has a specific action. The injection is carried out in a sterile environment with local anesthesia, and takes only a few seconds. There is no pain and recovery is immediate. The therapy is done in cycles, but it is difficult to predict how many treatments will be needed to stop the degeneration. If you come to see us, we can talk you through what to expect

How much does it cost?

The cost of an intravitreal injection is comparable to that of a new outfit. We have many outfits in our closet, but none of these give us the gift of sight. Think. And call us: a solution is waiting
